Frequently asked questions.
If it’s not here, reply to any newsletter and ask. Answers here are usually the result of someone asking a good question.
Is Routine OS free to use right now?+
Yes. The app is in early access and free while we finalize the long-term plan structure. No payment, no trial timer. You sign in with Google or email/password so your routines sync across devices — that’s it. Anything that changes later will be grandfathered in fairly for existing users.
Do I need the hardware to use Routine OS?+
No. The app stands on its own. The hardware companion is a separate product for people who want their phone out of their morning or workday shutdown. Same app brain, different physical form.
Will there be a paid tier?+
Yes, eventually. The short answer: the core — designing, running, and tracking routines — will always be free. The paid tier is being structured to focus on depth and convenience for power users. Specifics are still being decided. We’ll share the structure before anything changes.
When does the hardware ship?+
Two tracks. Early versions — small-batch, hand-built units — target mid to late 2026 for waitlist members who want a working device before the production design is final. Treat these as beta hardware: real, functional, not polished. Production hardware follows once the design is locked and manufacturing is ready. Waitlist members get first access to both, plus a meaningful discount on production units.
Does the app work offline?+
Not yet. The current web app requires an internet connection because it syncs with the cloud in real time. True offline — build, run, and log routines with no connection, sync when you reconnect — is coming with the native iOS and Android apps. It’s near the top of the post-web roadmap.
What data do you collect?+
The minimum required to run the product: your routines, your completion history, and your account basics. No cross-site tracking, no ads, no selling data to anyone. The privacy page has the full detail.
Can I export my data?+
Export is on the roadmap. The commitment is simple: your routines and history are yours, we don’t hold them hostage. If you need an export today for any reason, email tablerockstudiosdev@gmail.com and we’ll send you a CSV manually.
Is there a team / family plan?+
Not yet. It’s on the roadmap. If you’d use one, reply to any newsletter and say so — that’s how features get prioritized.
How does this compare to other habit apps?+
Short version: we’re free on the core, we use proportional scoring instead of binary streaks, we have a coach voice that adapts to context, and we’re building hardware. Most habit tools measure whether you checked a box — we run the actual sequence.
The home page has a side-by-side comparison of the category pattern vs. how we work.
Does it work for ADHD or executive function issues?+
It was designed with those users in mind. Forgiving streaks (a missed day doesn’t reset anything), proportional scoring (partial runs count), low-friction entry (tap to start, no dashboards to maintain), and adaptive coach voice (it doesn’t scold you when you come back after a gap). The ADHD Gentle Start template is built for exactly this use case.
Are there wearable or health integrations?+
On the roadmap, nothing shipping yet. If there’s a specific platform you want supported, email us — volume of requests drives priority.
What happens to my data if Routine OS shuts down?+
Your data is yours, full stop. If the product ever had to wind down, we’d commit to at least a 90-day export window so everyone could take their routines and history with them.
Why another habit app?+
Because habit tracking and habit running aren’t the same thing. Most apps measure whether you checked a box. We run the actual sequence — the steps, in order, with timers, at the time that matters. The tracking is a byproduct, not the product. That shift changes everything about how the app feels.
What platforms does the app run on?+
Right now: the web. It runs on any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or phone. Native iOS and Android apps are next on the roadmap — same data, same routines, better reminders and true offline. Your data syncs across any device you sign in on.
Is Routine OS open source?+
Not today. The reading we share is open — essays, curated research, the build log — but the app code isn’t. We may open-source specific components (the coach voice library, for instance) at some point. No promises.
How do I get notified when Pro + hardware launch?+
Subscribe to the newsletter below. We’ll send one email when Pro pricing is locked, and one when the hardware is ready for pre-order. No drip sequences, no upsell cadence.
